Summer is in full swing! Are you looking for ways to get your furry friend involved in all the summer fun? Being outdoors with our pups is a great way to keep them both physically and mentally engaged. We understand keeping your dog active and engaged in new activities can be a challenge, so we’ve compiled a list of things you can check off of your Dog Days of Summer playlist. At All American Pet Resorts Lakeshore, we’ve got the cure for summer blues!

1. Go for a Swim!

Nothing is more refreshing on a hot summer day than taking a dip! Dogs have a blast splashing around in the cool water, plus it’s a great workout! If you have a pup that is new to the water, consider getting a life vest as a precaution. Although dogs have instincts that kick in, it’s always best to arrive prepared! On those too hot to handle summer days, treat your furry friend to a dip to cool off!

2. Take a Hike

Does your dog enjoy going for walks? Take them along your next scenic hike around the Detroit area! Make sure that your dog is protected from fleas and ticks. Dogs love to hit the hiking trails, smell the different smells, and explore the rural environment. Keep in mind to pick up after your pet and be prepared with plenty of water throughout the hike.

3. Obstacle Course

Creating an obstacle course with cones and hula hoops in the park or your backyard is a fun way to stimulate your dog’s intelligence and at the same time increase their agility. Getting your pet active with an obstacle is a great way to keep them in great shape mentally and physically. Plus, a long day of running around makes for a great night of sleep! Happy pups become sleepy pups after a long day on the course.

4. Pupsicles

After a long day in the sun, nothing is more rewarding to your pup than a cool treat like a #pupsicle! You can find dozens of recipes online for homemade pupsicles to treat your furry friend after a long day of play. A simple and easy recipe is to purée whatever dog-safe fruit you have on hand, pour it into some silicone molds, freeze, and enjoy! Remember, if your dog has food allergies or you are unsure of what is safe for your dog, ask your vet. Store bought Frosty Paws are a good option too! We serve those at our Resort!
